Hatching the eggs
The Bali Starling is one of Indonesia's most stunning endemic birds. Bali Starling also has blue eyes and grey limbs. This combination of colours makes the Bali Starling one of the most beautiful birds in the world. Bali starlings only lay one egg per nesting season. They have a complex social structure, with a parent pair leading the group and young birds living with them. Bali Starlings are intelligent and social birds, often communicating through various calls and body language. They also have a habit of sharing tasks, where all group members help each other in finding food.
In 2005-2006, only six Bali Starlings remained in their original habitat in West Bali National Park. Today, their numbers exceed 300 through successful captive breeding and release programs.
Tony Sumampouw, Chairman of the Bali Starling Conservation Association (APCB), stated that the population was only five in 2004-2005. However, over time and with successful release efforts, hundreds of Bali Starlings are now recorded throughout Bali.
The Bali Starling, also known as the Bali Myna, is a protected bird species classified as critically endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and listed in Appendix I of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).
